What can be said that isnt summed up in "Hallmark holiday"? It is just a waste of money and reflects poorly on society's intelligence seeing as were stupid enough to succumb to advertising. If you appreciate and love someone then you show them as often as you can, not just on one day so that for the day they can flaunt that someone was stupid enough to buy them a flower that is overpriced and will die sooner then usual.
'And so, from hour to hour, we ripe and ripe;
And then, from hour to hour, we rot and rot;
And thereby hangs a taleā¦'
William Shakespeare, As You Like It, II:7

Valentine's day is just like any other holiday. It's a day when lots of people take time out to think about something other than work and money.
And I think that's a good thing. In theory you can show someone you love them any day of the year, but in reality people need a bit of encouragement.

I am thinking if you need any encouragement it's not really love. As for Hallmark Day, I believe you mean You-just-got-raped-by-Hallmark Day.

oh cmon, if a guy suddenly did valentiney stuff any other day the chick would immediate think 'ok what's he done wrong that he's making up for'

The "what's he done wrong" would probably be forgetting to get her flowers on Valentines Day.
